![]() Proceeding in time playing cards' have shifted from a dependent to an independent agency that enabled them to gradually alter the meaning with which they have been connected to, and became powerful mediums, conveying other meanings often disguised as metaphors. By tracing back to their early history, it is possible not only to understand how their form has changed but also which were the different meanings that playing cards conveyed at those times. Playing cards as non-human agents have been for long present in people's lives. That interplay concerns the cultural meaning that is not given but created and developed when human and non-human agents act conjointly. ![]() This study aims to show the life history of playing cards as a fascinating interplay between cultures and concepts.
